Chinese Consulate General in Auckland Holds Reception Celebrating 77th Anniversary of Founding of People’s Republic of China and Mid-Autumn Festival

On 12 September, the Chinese Consulate-General in Auckland held a grand reception celebrating 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and Mid-Autumn Festival. Consul General Chen Shijie and more than 400 representatives from political, business, Chinese community, academic and other sectors, as well as members of the consular corps, attended the event.

In his remarks, Chen reviewed the great achievements of Chinese modernisation, introduced the latest progress in practical cooperation between China and New Zealand across various fields and the outcomes of exchanges with China in the consular district. He noted that the Consulate-General stands ready to work with people from all sectors to contribute new wisdom, add positive energy, and write a new chapter in further deepening China–New Zealand relations.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown, Members of Parliament Nancy Lu, Carlos Cheung, Deborah Russell and Arena Williams, and President of the NZ-China Friendship Society Auckland Branch Leeann Wahanui-Peters delivered remarks respectively. Hamilton City Councillor Leo Liu read out a congratulatory letter from Mayor Tim Macindoe, while Auckland Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson delivered a video address. New Zealand guests extended their festive greetings, spoke highly of the important contributions made by the Chinese community to New Zealand’s economic and social development, and expressed their shared hope for steady and sustained progress in New Zealand-China ties.

The reception was filled with a festive and warm atmosphere. A variety of colourful cultural performances won rounds of applause from the guests.
